I’m usually in the studio but sometimes I get out for something a little more environmental for my #chiaroscuro #portraits. Taken in a bar with my favorite lens, Nikon’s 58mm f/1.4G. Lit with a Speedlight and snoot hung from a light fixture one booth over. #portraitphotography

It has been a tough week for my hometown. We lost two wonderful elders of the community, women who really shaped the town and made it a unique and loving place to grow up in. I’m grateful to have known you both, indulging me when I was a child and later in life when I convinced you to sit for portraits. Sending condolences to the families.

This shoot didn’t actually go as planned. My lights mysteriously stopped working properly and I nearly panicked. I rolled up the garage door and worked with ambient lighting only. They grow. The first set where taken in 2013 with a Nikon D800, Speedlight flash, and 24-70mm. The second set where taken this year using a D850, a Profoto A1 flash, and a 58mm.
